After graduation, he served in the United States Army during the Korean War.  George began his career in education as a history and government teacher, head basketball coach, assistant football coach, and golf coach at Luther Jackson High School in Falls Church.  He subsequently moved to W.T. Woodson High School as chairman of the physical education department and coach.  During these years, George earned a Master’s Degree in Education from American University.  In 1971, Mr. Felton became an administrative aide at Woodson.  From there he went to Marshall High School as an assistant principal.  He served as the Principal of Madison High School for 3 ½ years and as the Principal of South Lakes High School for 4 ½ years before retiring in 1984. 

 

Many community organizations profited from George’s commitment to excellence, including Rotary, Phi Delta Kappa, the Fairfax Symphony Orchestra, and George Mason University. His commitment to all students has earned him the affection and respect of his colleagues.  His love of people made him a beloved member of the community.  NVADACA honors Mr. Felton’s many contributions by awarding a scholarship in his name.
